Le Maupas is situated deep
in the heart of Basse Normandy, surrounded by rolling pastures and
woodlands. Its serenity and beauty adds to its charm and ambience.
The house itself, built in the 17th Century, was once a
farmhouse, and has been tastefully renovated, retaining many of its
original features. The hamlet of
Montaigu
les bois is typical of a French farming community but is also a stones
throw from the popular town of Villedieu Les
poêles,
famous for its copper and pewter.
"As proprietors, we take
great care to ensure that all our guests are made welcome by providing
an exceptional service, offering comfort and privacy in addition to
advice on the surrounding area and specific sites of interest within
Normandy."
SERVICES
Le Maupas has 2 double en-suite rooms
and 1 twin en-suite room, each with it's own shower. All rooms are
provided with towels and bedding. There are tea and coffee making
facilities in the dining room included in the price.
Breakfast at Le Maupas can be taken in our beautiful dining room
with original log burning fire, or in summer you may choose to
breakfast at the seating area overlooking our beautiful gardens and
fields. We serve a traditional continental breakfast with homemade
jams and eggs freshly laid from our chickens.

WHAT TO SEE AND DO
Normandy has much to offer
in respect of its history and culture. For people seeking relaxation and
leisure, there are long stretches of sandy beaches within half an hours
drive, busy French towns, each with their own markets and gastronomic
specialities and areas of outstanding natural beauty such as St Sever
and the Vire valley. For those wanting to know more of the toils of war,
the Normandy landing Beaches and Pegasus bridge are within an hours
drive. Cemeteries are prominent and poignantly remind us of the
sacrifice of soldiers and civilians. Many museums inform us of heroism
and eventual victory in Europe.
Bayeux is just 40 minutes
away, where you can see the tapestry and amble round the pretty streets,
saturated with inviting shops and restaurants. The old city of St. Malo
and Cancale, just within the borders of Brittany are within an hours
drive and where you can peruse the cobbled streets or sample oysters
fresh from the sea. Mont St Michel, approximately half an hours drive is
the second most visited place in France and is a must to see. One can
also have a day out to Jersey from the town of Granville just 20 minutes
from le Maupas. The trip itself takes approximately 1 ½ hours.
TRAVELLING
Le Maupas is within 2 hours
of all ferry ports including the crossing from Plymouth to St Malo.
