Les
Hirondelles sits in the heart of some of France’s most beautiful
countryside just one hour’s drive from Ouistreham and Caen and on
the edge of the Suisse Normande in the lush green valley of the
River Orne.
The
area is renowned for its locally produced cider, pommeau and
calvados brandy as well as fine cheeses and dairy produce. The house
is perfectly situated for all kinds of outdoor activities,
surrounded by well signposted off road tracks for hiking, biking or
horseriding. Nearby is Pont D’Ouilly, where you can enjoy numerous
watersports including kayaks and canoes, or view the fantastic
scenery from the air in a helicopter ride.
ACCOMMODATION AND
SERVICES
The
accommodation has its own entrance leading to a lounge/dining area
with fridge, tea & coffee facilities, TV and DVD and a comfortable
double sofa bed. A door then leads to a spacious double bedroom with
en-suite shower room. A baby cot is available should it be required.
Breakfast can be served in your own dining area or on the terrace,
weather permitting.
WHAT TO SEE AND DO
The
nearest main town of Falaise is a thriving market town steeped in
history, famous for the world war battle “the Falaise Pocket” and
also home to the castle of William the Conqueror (see photo), here you can enjoy
food in the many friendly bars, cafés and restaurants.
The
house is just 1km from les Roches D’Oetre (see photo), a spectacular 118 metre
granite gorge and nature site with trails leading down to the river
where you may spot otters, kingfishers and other rare wildlife. New
for this year is the recently opened tourist centre there with all
the information you could possibly need about activities and events
in the surrounding area. The centre also has its own café/restaurant
where you can enjoy excellent food and drink at very affordable
prices. Open all day until 10pm, perfect for that drink or evening
meal and no need to take the car! Eat outside and watch the sun set
across the gorge!
PRICE
The
price for 2-4 people sharing is 50 euros per night including
breakfast.
