Brittany.
This is a wonderful maritime region where you are
never far from the coast and sandy beaches! Inland there are ancient
forests, lakes, rivers and fabulous 'parcs naturel regional'. This
region is rich with history and a great place for seafood! When in
Brittany make sure you visit the stunning forest, lake and amazing
rock-strewn water at Huelgoat, and make time for Pont Aven, home of
the Synthesist group of painters grouped around Paul Gauguin in the
1880-90s. Carnac is a favourite for its amazing standing stones -
all 1170 of them! No trip to Brittany is complete without visiting
the Mont St Michel, it is magical and the guided tours are
fascinating. Other highlights include La Baule, the Golfe du
Morbihan, Menez-Hom and Crozon, Quimper, and much more.
Normandy.
A favourite, with great cider and fabulous cheeses! Lots of lovely
market towns and some of the most important horse studs in France. A
favourite area is the Cherbourg peninsula, around St. Lo & Coutances
- this area gives great access to lovely beaches, an easy drive to
the Mont St Michel, not far from the ferry ports, with delightful
small fields characteristic of the 'bocage' landscape. An essential
trip is to the D-Day beaches.
