The Lot. Lovely rural area with a refreshing lack of industry. Undulating landscape, it is one of the largest fruit-growing areas of France, and many fruits, including strawberries, peaches, apricots, and very special prunes – in fact, the prunes d’Agen even have an Appellation Contrôlée! This area is also known for Armagnac.

 

Poitou-Charentes. Home to Futuroscope, Cognac, oysters, it's a fairly easy drive from the north coast and ferry ports. Spring comes early in this area, it has a lovely mild climate, with longer and hotter summers than further north.
